Tips for Planning the Best Child's Birthday Party

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

When my kids were young their friends always looked forward to our parties. It didn't matter if it was a birthday party or a Halloween bash, we were known to throw creative and memorable parties. 20 years later that's still true! For many years I was a professional event planner for an event venue. I have planned hundreds of weddings and just as many bat/bar mitzvahs. So I know how to throw a great party on just about any budget.

Do's And Don'ts of Kids Party Planning

Do have a plan.

Don't Make the Party Too Long.

Do pick activities that FIT the ages of the kids.

Don't let games get too competitive.

Do provide simple snacks or food.

Do pick a location for that's age appropriate.

Do plan for weather concerns (have an indoor or under cover plan B available for an outdoor party).

Outlining Your Child's Birthday Party Budget

It really doesn't matter what your annual income is, it's just a good idea to set some limits on how much you'll spend on your kids party. A budget will help you control the spending and maintain a healthy budget for presents too. Here's some simple things to consider that can help you save money while still putting on a fabulous party:

Timing it right! Planning your party from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. is a budget friendly choice. It's after lunch and before dinner is the best time to party, when guests don't expect a full meal.

Share the fun! If your kid's birthday falls close to a buddy's, consider a dual party. You and the other child's parents will split the cost and responsibilities. Just make sure each kid feels individually special by providing separate cakes and presents!

Skip the party venues. Your budget might go a lot further by bringing the party to you! If you just don't want the setup and cleanup of hosting the party at home, consider a nearby park pavilion and ask for a little help from friends and relatives.

Look for value added service providers. As an example, we're a value added children's party entertainment provider. Our added value is in the games we bring (you don't have to rent), the added on board face painting and balloon twisting, and our party planning expertise comes in handy too. Ask us about the multitudes of things we can do to make your children's party a big hit with the kids and stress free for you.
